Dove ad,

This just makes me mad...

CNN did a piece on this and interviewed a professional model who claimed that everyone knows the photos on the cover of Cosmo are altered. Nobody is that "naive", and it is "harmless".

I didn't know.

Did you?

Last week, while waiting in line at the supermarket checkout, I saw a magazine cover with a picture of a young, Hollywood actress.

Blonde. Tan. Thin. Gorgeous.

Her quote on the cover was, "I'll never be perfect again."

Evidently she had plastic surgery that had gone awry.

There are so many things wrong with her statement I can't even begin to list them.

Ladies, today do something nice for someone else. Hug your children. Smile at a stranger. Don't give a second glance to the magazine covers and embrace your beauty...

Your REAL beauty.

I agree with you that the image of beauty in this country anymore is very very distorted. I hope that when the time comes for Girlie Girlie and even Little Man to be teens that I can lay a good foundation for the self esteem.

I hope to teach them that healthy habits and exercise is the way to a good body and pencil thin isn't all that attractive.

I was never so proud as the day my oldest and I were out somewhere. A very slim, blonde, lots of makeup, pretty girl was trying desperately to get him to notice her. His answer to me when i pointed it out...."Ummm thats ok mom, Paris Hilton is not my type."

My mom preached it to me and I didn't know she was right until I hit about 25, if you like yourself, everyone else will too.

In all faireness I was one of those people that thought everyone knew, but I am glad to see not everyone does because this commercial will really enlighten everyone as to what type of propganda these jokers will use. There was that whole woman newscaster (new to the network) controversy just a few months ago where she looked ten lbs lighter and they admited that it was "photoshopped".

I am proud of Dove for doing their "real beauty" campaings because there really are women in this world that don't fit the 5'11 weighing 101 lbs description.

There is so much going on, and so much at stake here, especially for our children. We are so off in our culture on what it means to be beautiful, and I don't mean just the difference between inward and outward beauty. We have exalted a "look" to near God like status, and we do that to our own peril and to the peril of our children.

We need our minds renewed so that we can see through and call these things "false" and "dangerous". I don't mean we have to get arrogant with people, but we were made for something better than a man made vision of beauty that's self serving instead of God serving.

One last thought, some elements of Christianity have continually called for fruitless "boycotts" and the like. I don't know much about Dove's program, but if this film clip is an indication of what they are doing, why are not several denominations making it a point to support this company, with all the fervor that exists when a boycott is in play? Well, maybe a denomination won't, but we can.

I love this clip. I am so glad that people are starting to talk about and actually show the fact that our standard of beauty is so fake.

Yay Dove!

Stupid Hollywood. It's all so fake, I definately don't want to be like them and I don't want my girls to either. Let's all just be real.

Actually I did know this, but only because I use to do a little modeling many years ago. It's horrible how the "world" tells beautiful women that they're not beautiful enough. There is no model or hollywood actress beautiful enough...they all need a little altering or need to be thinner. Crazy! I'm thankful to have boys, and believe me, I filter out a lot of this sort of stuff even for them. I don't want them to grow up thinking they have to have the "world's" image of perfection in their wives. I want them to find a beautiful woman...one that's beautiful on the inside. I want my boys to value the beauty of the heart more than the beauty of the face.

This is the kind of sh-tuff that makes me so very sad. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't affect me.
What's worse is that it won't be long before it starts affecting my little ones.
That just straight pisses me off.

I saw that video and I was shocked. I also saw that magazine cover. It's amazing how superficial those actresses are. I don't see why she even needed plastic surgery in the first place.

Really enjoy your blog. Have read several of your posts and had many laughs. All the best to you!

My husband dabbles in photography. He touches up a LOT of his photos to make the clients look better. Last week he removed 100% of the acne off the face of one of the teenage children in the family we photographed. This week he's working on covering up the eczyma that my neices have all over their legs. He's really enhanced some of my photos too - skinnier waistline, better cleavage, darker tan.... it's amazing what HE can do with his programs...and he just does it for fun and uses medium grade camera, lighting, and programs to develop his digital pictures. It's no wonder they can do that with their much more powerful photo enhancing programs!
