Dreaming In Words

I just read, devoured, rather, a really great book. It is titled Good Grief by Lolly Winston. I started it yesterday afternoon and finished it today. A fabulous read! And of course, you can't really "Search Inside", as the picture suggests. I merely borrowed that image from Amazon.

I wasn't looking for a new book, exactly. I happened to be hanging out with some girlfriends at Barnes and Noble after a movie, sipping my peppermint mocha and perusing some interesting books (which I absolutely did not intend to buy), when one of the ladies makes a comment that strikes me funny just as I am taking a drink of my nice dark beverage and I, of course, spew it onto the lovely, pristine book jacket in front of me. It just so happened to be the above mentioned book. Luckily, it was bargain priced at $5.98.

This book had the perfect mix of humor, reality and tragedy, although I found the ending a little too Norman Rockwell. But most of all, I found it inspiring. It is exactly the kind of book I want to write. So now I'm feeling this overwhelming urge to get started.

Here's the weird thing.

There is this strange voice in my head narrating my every move, every tiny little happening in my life. For instance, when I walked down the steps of my porch today, here is what freaky, narrative voice said:

"She stepped out into the cold, brisk air, momentarily blinded by the brilliant sun reflected on the glittering snow. Clutching the cold, iron rail in her naked hand, she stepped, slowly, carefully, down the first of the icy steps, which seemed determined to bring her down."

This happened with everything. And I do mean E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

This is either a really good sign, or the beginnings of schizophrenia.

I vote for good sign.

It's like having your own personal narrator. Now all you need is some background music....

Did you see Stranger Than Fiction?

that just made me bust up laughing!

Okay, you made me laugh. Again. You've got to go see "Stranger Than Fiction", currently in the theaters. You will laugh in recognition of your problem. And, of course, Will Ferrell makes it funny too. Does the narrator in your head have a British accent?

Just wonderin'.

I think my vote go towards schizophrenia - that is just a little crazzyy! Of course, I've never been a aspiring novelist.

As the early light pierced through the crushed satin sheers, a young voice sweetly demanded a rise out of Frangelica. Her groggy eyes seemed to blink, "cof-fee, cof-fee." She glided elegantly into the West wing only to find the young child's feces happily married to the fawn colored sofa. Before she could anger, a voice said to her "Be calm, there are greater forces at work here." Suddenly an image appeared and it was Van Gogh himself who pleaded with Frangelica not to rinse away this masterpiece.

Is it weird that I have a narrator, too? Or maybe I just talk to myself. Hmm...

Oh oh! I read that book a few months ago and couldn't put it down either! I went straight back to the library to find other books by the author!

As for your narration....I think you should write your own novel!

if the voice is there for a month, disturbs your life in anyway during 6 months (including the month mentioned before) and you don't show signs of humor disorder or schizoafective disorder, it's schizophrenia. get help. if not, start a book asap, you seem to be starting very well.

hey, at least it's not that movie trailer voiceover guy or something. or would that be better for you? I'm with litlover and I vote it a good thing.

I need a good book to read. I'm gonna check it out!! And you must see Stranger than Fiction! It's a great movie, but I love anything with Will Ferrell!

Have you been wanting to write a book? If so have you heard of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org)? It's a great kick in the pants for any wannabe writer (me among them).

I got more than 80 pages done in 28 days. More than I've ever done in my life.

Of course, if you were just pretending you're probably laughing at me now, so I'll quit.
